2012 MUSCAT OF ALEXANDRIA LIMNOS, GREECE
Jonas and I have wanted to make wine in Greece since we were married there in 2006. In our opinion, the iron-red soils and climate have the potential to make some of the best wines. So I told my uncle George (a veteran in the wine and spirits industry in Greece) our idea of making wine in Greece. He in turn introduced us to Limnos, a Greek island in the North Aegean that grows Limnio, an ancient indigenous varietal mentioned in the Iliad of Homer and Muscat of Alexandria, a white grape introduced to the island over a century ago.
George also introduced us to the Cooperative Winery of Limnos, run by a Limnos born winemaker named Nikos Vakirtzis who feels as strongly as we do about making the wines of Limnos world famous. We’ve been given the privilege to make wine from both Limnio and Muscat in the Coop and the Muscat is now available in Ontario through private order.
Our Muscat of Alexandria is an extremely rare white wine of exceptional quality. You will not find a dry Muscat of Limnos anywhere outside of Greece. This is a dry Muscat, medium bodied with intense floral and citrus aromatics.
The winemaker of the coop believes in our project so much that he has now joined us as partner and we now have one singular objective: to introduce you to Muscat of Alexandria and Limnio. Our winery in Limnos is named Terra Lemnia and we invite you to learn more about us at
We believe that authenticity is more important than trend and we believe Muscat of Alexandria makes a unique wine that embodies the soils and spirit of Limnos.
